Vocal Freedom Episode 19 - Kate Millner
Friday Sep 11, 2020
Friday Sep 11, 2020
My guest this week is Kate Millner, a professionally trained actress, voice artist, singer and story-teller who has had a really interesting journey with her voice. From working with Mitchell & Webb in her Cambridge days, Adam Cork from the RSC, moving into supply teaching where her voice use was intensified then followed the scary diagnosis and recovery from vocal nodules.
More recently Kate has also trained to become a Celebrant, a person who performs and officiates formal ceremonies. Using her voice as a source of comfort and support for grieving relatives.
Kate is also half of the music duo ‘At Swefn’s Edge’ with her husband Michael, who is a soundscape composer and sound engineer. During lockdown, through the Mercury Creatives Programme of the Mercury Theatre, Colchester some of their music has inspired all sorts of creative projects, you can learn more about this as Kate explains through the episode.
Hear how important it is for creatives who need to keep that muscle flexing, coping with the cancellation of work and contracts and adapting through covid to stay creative and exploring new avenues of sound.
(Kate, on self judgement)

Happy listening y'all!
